Ipswich YM RUFC
Woodbridge RFC

IPSWICH YM RUFC First XV v WOODBRIDGE WARRIORS RUFC Match Report

22nd December 2024

Woodbridge RUFC were the visitors to Ipswich YM RUFC’s Rushmere ground for the last fixture of 2024 with good support for both teams on the touchline despite the strong wind and rain.

A powerful start by the YM stretched Woodbridge across both sides of the pitch and some good recycling by the YM forwards released the YM back line with full-back Barny Horsfield scoring in the corner after 7 minutes. Barny missed the difficult conversion so the YM took a 5-0 lead.

Woodbridge’s restart went straight into touch and from the YM scrum on halfway the YM burst back into the Woodbridge half and ultimately their 22. The Woodbridge forwards turned the ball over at a ruck but as they attempted an exit YM winger, Corey Parfitt, intercepted a pass to accelerate away and score YM’s second try under the posts which was converted for a 12-0 lead after 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, Woodbridge tight-head prop Karl Harris suffered a neck injury after falling awkwardly at a line out. Medical help arrived quickly to immobilise Karl and an ambulance was called. We understand that Karl’s condition had improved by the time he was taken to hospital and everyone associated with both clubs hope that this is the case and he makes a swift and full recovery to pull on the Warrior’s shirt again soon.

The game had to be understandably abandoned in the circumstances after 12 minutes and will be rescheduled for the New Year.
